7/17/2023 0 Comments Timeworks series 1906![]() I also liked that coffee is available before breakfast begins. So yummy, in fact, I bought the Four Sisters Cookbook (then came home and bought an older one from Amazon! The recipes are just that good). The breakfast at the lodge was very yummy. Very fun! I'm not even a biker, but we had such a great time. ![]() We were very, very happy about this! We borrowed two of the bikes from the lodge and went biking down to the Silver Strand State Beach. We were able to take advantage of the underground parking, which surprised us because we were in a large vehicle. ![]() I loved sitting up on the balcony with a cup of coffee. We LOVED it here! We stayed in North Island, which is a huge room with a two person jetted tub, living area, fireplace, ample bedroom and peaceful covered private balcony. My husband and I spent two nights here while we were visiting San Diego from the east coast for a romantic adult only getaway/birthday. We couldn't stop talking about how very relaxing it was and how we were so impressed with everything about our time there. But being able to dip back into the serenity that was the 1906 and our room was the best. ![]() The second day we took advantage of the available golf cart and just took a tour of the classic houses on the island. We ate a Miguel's the first night, and Stake the second and were also very impressed with both. Everything we wanted to do or see or places to eat were within very easy walking distance. The other options both days were: toast/bagels/muffins, fruit, oatmeal, 3 kinds of cold cereal, hard boiled eggs, yogurt with toppings, and coffee/tea/ and several juices. Breakfast in the morning was much more than expected ham & cheese back the first day, oatmeal/blueberry pancakes & bacon the second. And the room.bed and bedding were top of the line, over-sized jacuzzi tub facing the double sided fireplace (other side faced the bed), separate very large shower, fridge and Keurig, attached balcony, lots of storage, everything was perfect. The sound of the fountains in the courtyard. Soothing piano music throughout the public areas. The entire lodge puts you at ease and relaxes you. From the incredibly restored building to the amazing staff (every one of them) to the room (The Trolley Room), to the breakfast and mid-day snacks/wine, to the bicycle to use, and the golf cart, it was absolutely the best stay ever. To be honest, I was not familiar with The Four Sisters, or especially The 1906. Then we walked in, and I was blown away (from that moment, until we left 2 days later). But she directed me to pull up into the driveway of what I felt looked like someone's amazing house. Of course the obvious guess now would be The Del. We ended up on Coronado Island, where we have visited, but never stayed. But even as we were leaving, I had no idea where we were headed. We live in Southern California and we could get to Palm Springs, San Diego, L.A. For our 30th Anniversary, my wife decided to plan our entire trip and surprise me.
